“The Quarter” Food Truck Park

The Quarter Food Truck Park

On December 6, 2021 (Resolution No. 2021-R-014), the City of Falfurrias Council authorized Andy Garcia, City Manager, to move forward with his plans to develop the City’s first food truck park, through the application of the T-Mobile Hometown Grant program. The City is excited to announce that it has been selected as a recipient of the T-Mobile Hometown Grant program and has been awarded $50,000 to create “The Quarter” food truck park, to be located between the Little League Baseball Fields and Kiddie Park off of Highway 281. With this new food truck park, the City of Falfurrias will not only increase commerce and economic activity in the City, but provide a new gathering place for its community and surrounding communities!

Project Summary:

The City of Falfurrias, as a small rural community of 4,609 residents, is looking to revitalize and refresh its Town Core District with its very first Town Core community park to foster local connections and increase community vibrance. “The Quarter” will be the City’s first food truck park, 100% accessible to all community members, providing access to a diverse selection of local food vendors and free high-speed WiFi connectivity for community residents and visitors.

The Quarter will feature a food truck area capable of hosting 60+ visitors with swinging table seating, chairs, and covered bench seating areas, as well as games (horseshoes, Jenga, cornhole, etc.) for the family. A “vendor box” recycled-cargo unit will also be available to provide refreshments and/or other services for visitors. Ambient lighting will be featured around the seating and food truck area (in addition to new LED lighting surrounding the food truck area for safety and visibility). The park will be ambiently lit with dimmable, vintage Edison string lights to create a relaxing environment for visitors. A deployable stage will also be present to provide a venue for local Tejano and Country musicians, displaying a City of Falfurrias heritage present since its founding in 1904. City services and the necessities, including water and electrical access for vendors, portable restrooms, and trash receptacles, will also be provided. Plenty of parking is provided by Kiddie Park and the Baseball Field, in addition to overflow parking in managed grass area on the North side of The Quarter. The Quarter also presents a safe, family-friendly zone, with the Police Department located less than 2 minutes away and consistent Police Department presence. The Quarter also features a layout capable of modular development, with substantial space to accommodate additional food vendors in the grass parking area as well as a venue for City-wide events such as holiday festivals, market days, and other community activities.
